Hamilton starts from Pole for the Monaco Grand Prix
It's only the second time he starts on pole in the Principality
Lewis Hamilton set a new qualifying record to beat teammate Valterri Bottas to start the Monaco Grand Prix on Pole Position.
The number 44 Mercedes was outshone in the first 2 parts of qualifying with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen fastest in Q1 and Q2 respectively.
Hamilton was faster than Bottas in Q3 by just under one tenth of a second, setting a time of 1min 10.166 seconds.
Mercedes locked out the front row, with Verstappen and Vettel on the second row of the grid.
It was a day to forget for the other Ferrari driver, the Monegasque Charles LeClerc, who was eliminated in Q1, and will start the race in 15th after Alfa Romeo's Antonio Giovinazzi was penalised for blocking the Renault of Nico Hulkenberg in the first part of qualifying.
