MAY DEFENDS GOVERNMENT OVER BREXIT

THE PRIME MINISTER HAS DEFENDED THE GOVERNMENT OVER BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS AFTER AN AGREEMENT FOR TALKS TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT STAGE.

She said the government is "proving the doubters wrong".

EU leaders have agreed talks can move on to the next stage in the new year, but Theresa May also suffered her first Commons defeat on Brexit this week.

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Express she claimed they would "not be derailed" from securing a deal.

She said the last 10 days had "marked a watershed" in the Brexit process.
