Severe obesity in children aged 10-11-years-old has reached record high
The proportion of children aged 10-11-years old with severe obesity has reached the highest point since records began, according to analysis of the National Child Measurement Programme by Public Health England.
The figures also show that significant health inequalities are continuing to widen, with the prevalence of excess weight, obesity, overweight and severe obesity higher in the most deprived areas compared to the least deprived.
As well as the upward trend of excess weight and severe obesity among Year 6 children, the figures also show a downward trend in excess weight and severe obesity in reception age boys.
