More than a dozen dead after Cyclone Fani

The strongest cyclone to hit India in five years has killed more than a dozen people before heading to Bangladesh where several more people lost their lives.

Tropical  storm Fani, which made landfall early on Friday, lost some of its power and was downgraded to a 'Depression' by the India weather authorities.

The storm surge then submerged dozens of villages on Bangladesh's low-lying coast.

The storm also destroyed several houses where a two-year-old child and a 12-year-old girl were killed and about 30 people were injured

In India, authorities were assessing damage left behind with most deaths caused by falling trees, but a mass evacuation averted a greater loss of life.
