MP's back May's Brexit plan while Labour amendment is defeated again
The Labour Party will put forward or support an amendment in favour of a public vote to prevent a damaging Brexit, the party's Brexit spokesman said on Wednesday.
That after MP's voted 323-240 against a Labour Party proposal for a permanent customs union with the EU.
"Disappointed the government has rejected Labour’s alternative Brexit deal," Keir Starmer said. "That’s why Labour will put forward or support an amendment in favour of a public vote to prevent a damaging Tory Brexit."
Ministers meanwhile endorsed Theresa may's Brexit strategy following a series of concessions by the government.
The most notable being Yvette Cooper's amendment, which the government supported, which was backed by 502 votes to 20.
The amendment contained Theresa May's commitment on giving MPs a vote on delaying Brexit if both her deal and no-deal are rejected by MPs.
