Increase in road maintenance budgets in England and Wales
The Asphalt Industry Alliance says money spent on road maintenance in England and Wales has gone up by 20 per cent.
It was an independently-conducted survey of the condition of England and Wales' local road network.
The report finds that the average maintenance budget in England and London went up by £5.3 million and £1.4 million respectively, but went down in Wales by £0.3 million.
Among a host of data, the report also states that whereas 73% of funding in 2017/18 for local roads in the capital came from the central government, in 2018/19 this figure dropped to just 32%, with the rest being funded by the local authority.
