Driving tests to be suspended during second lockdown
Driver and rider tests will be suspended from November 5 until December 2, 2020, to coincide with the second lockdown period in England. In addition, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has said that as well as examinations, driver training will be suspended over the same timeframe. It means that learners will be unable to book driving lessons with a certified instructor.
In a statement, it said: “Following the Government announcement on tougher national restrictions from Thursday, driver and rider training and tests will be suspended in England from 5 November until 2 December 2020.
“We will be providing further guidance and contacting those affected as soon as we can.”
According to a further tweet by the DVSA, theory tests are not being included in this suspension period. It would be providing ‘further updates on our other services as soon as we can’, however.
Tests in Wales are currently suspended during the country’s ‘firebreak’ period, but will re-commence when it comes to an end on November 9. Tests booked in Wales during the firebreak will automatically be re-booked once the measures are eased.
Currently, all tests in Scotland can go ahead as planned, according to the DVSA.
Driving tests were originally suspended back in March due to the initial lockdown period and only restarted in July. A large backlog had been built up, with around 210,000 tests cancelled due to the shutdown, according to the DVSA.
