Calls for free bus travel to improve the environment
Friends of the Earth has called on the government to make bus travel free to help fight climate change.
It's as a new report from FoE and Transport for Quality of Life shows that a minimum 20% reduction in car journeys is needed to help reduce emissions.
The report is published on the same day as the government releases annual figures on greenhouse gas emissions, and says they are expected to show that transport was the largest source of greenhouse gases in the UK, accounting for over a third of total emissions.
Friends of the Earth says bus travel should initially be made free for under-30s, costing around £3bn a year.
