BMJ claims minimum spending has cut spending on alcohol in Scotland
Experts have been looking into spending trends since the introduction of unit pricing
The introduction of minimum unit pricing (MUP) in Scotland appears to have been successful in reducing the amount of alcohol purchased.
That's according to a study published in The BMJ.
The effects were greatest in households which bought the most alcohol, the study finds, which suggests that it has 'achieved its ambition to make relatively cheap and strong alcohol less affordable, which in turn should positively impact public health over time'.
