Alastair Cook receives a knighthood in New Year Honours

Former England captain Alastair Cook is to become the youngest cricketing knight ever.

He becomes the first England player to be knighted since Ian Botham in 2007.

Cook scored 33 centuries and nearly 12,500 runs in 161 Tests throughout his career.

He signed off in fairytale fashion in September when, batting for the last time before retiring from international cricket, he scored a century against India at the Oval.

Lesley Lawson – better known as Twiggy – has been made a Dame for services to Fashion, Arts and charity.

Cyclist Geraint Thomas receives an OBE after his Tour De France victory.

Thomas rode to glory in July, becoming the third British rider to win cycling's biggest event.

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason receives an OBE.

There are honours too for four divers who helped to rescue 12 junior footballers and their coach from a flooded cave in Thailand.

While four Greater Manchester Police officers and staff have been recognised for their commitment and dedication following the terror attack at Manchester Arena in  May 2017.
