Sergio Gomez excited for ‘new adventure’ at Real Sociedad after leaving Man City

Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez has joined Real Sociedad on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old moves after two seasons at the Etihad Stadium in which he made 38 first-team appearances and won six trophies without establishing himself as a regular in the side.

The deal for the Spaniard, who joined City after a spell at Anderlecht, could be worth up to £8.4million, the PA news agency understands, and also includes a sell-on clause of 30 per cent of any future fee.

Gomez was a member of the squad that won the treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in 2023 and retained the domestic title last season.

He told the club’s official website: “It’s time to leave Manchester City but I’d like to thank everyone at the CFA (City Football Academy) for their support and guidance during my time at the club.

“Being part of such a talented, ambitious and successful squad was a true honour and winning a host of major trophies, including the treble, is something I will never forget and will always look back fondly on.

“I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future.”

Elsewhere, Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new three-year contract.

The 27-year-old’s existing deal expired at the end of June and he was mulling over his future but he has now decided to stay at the King Power Stadium for three more years.

He said: “It’s really amazing to be a part of this journey going forward.”

Swansea have signed 23-year-old midfielder Goncalo Franco from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Moreirense on a four-year contract.

“He wants to improve his career, he is not afraid to make this step into a new culture and a new country,” said Swans head coach Luke Williams.

Premier League newcomers Ipswich have signed defender Jacob Greaves from Hull for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around an initial £15m, plus £3m in add-ons.

Greaves, who has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Portman Road said on his new club’s official website: “As soon as I heard about the interest, I was keen to get the move over the line.

“Now that it’s done. I am really happy. I’m excited to have the opportunity to step up to the Premier League and I cannot wait to get started.”
