Game of Thrones heads Emmy nominations

Game of Thrones has received 23 Emmy nominations which is one more than the People v OJ Simpson.

The hit show won 12 awards in 2015.

The ceremony takes place in LA in September when there is a chance of British success.

Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Luther and presenters James Corden and John Oliver are also up for prizes.

Idris Elba for Luther, Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock and Tom Hiddleston for The Night Manager are nominated for outstanding lead actor.

Comedian Amy Schumer has the most single nominations with four.
