At around 3am on Sunday 23 April police were called to an address on Cranbourne Road in Chorlton-cum-Hardy to reports that 35-year-old Mike Samwell had been hit by his own car as he tried to stop thieves from stealing it.

Mike was taken to hospital for treatment but he sadly died a short time later.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of murder who has been released on bail but are are further appealing for information as it is believed there are a number of suspects outstanding.

As well as following a number of enquiries, officers are specifically interested in speaking to anyone who saw a blue 5-door BMW 1 Series in the area, which it is believed it was used by the offenders after the incident.

Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick from GMP’s Major Incident team said: “Thanks to the public we have received a lot of information and support for our investigation.

“We have now identified a blue BMW that was in the area, which we think was used by the offenders to flee the scene and I’m asking the public again to have a think if they saw a blue BMW driving erratically in the area.

“We have set up a DropBox link for anyone who may have caught anything on CCTV or dashcams to send us their footage.

“You may not think what you know is important, but it could be vital to our investigation.”
